Litchfield Land Trust adds 80 acres along Shepaug River

"LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield Land Trust was the recipient of 80 acres of land around the Shepaug River Thursday.
The land was donated by C.A. Litchfield LLC and Alan Temkin, the developers behind a new subdivision around the river.
Shepaug Crossing is a planned residential community on 283 acres of land around the river. The land has been divided into 20 subdivisions for homes that will sit on a range of 3.5 to more than 20 acres.
“[Setting aside land] helps to protect the rural character of the area,” said Temkin.
The Litchfield Land Trust has plans to cut a hiking trail of up to two miles through the reserve and along the Shepaug River.
“This is a beautiful natural area,” said Litchfield Land Trust President Peter Litwin. “It’s really undisturbed. We think it will be an excellent addition to our holdings. Our intention is to keep it in a completely natural setting.”
The area is adjacent to the Waterbury Water Company property and a part of the Washington Steep Rock Association preserve..."
