Fostering Collaboration

Heart of the CountyTo accomplish the elevated level of land protection and high transactional standards required by our regional conservation vision, the Litchfield Hills Greenprint Collaborative provides a forum where neighboring land trusts of varying capacities and geographies (but all with similar approaches to conservation) can expand their vision and learn from one another’s experiences. Having the chance to share expertise and discuss the challenges and opportunities each organization faced created an unprecedented level of collaboration among the Land Trusts served by the Greenprint.

Implementing our shared conservation vision across Northwest Connecticut has started to coalesce around places like watersheds or forest systems that extend beyond a single town boundary or land trust service area.  These locally driven efforts are bringing together neighbors and neighboring land trusts to preserve a shared landscape. Those underway or planned for the near future will concentrate our land protection and capacity building efforts on a few top priority places with a core group of small, volunteer-run land trusts that are best positioned to benefit from the resources that we can provide.
